Because a Cavalier’s fur is supposed to be left untrimmed, I had been trying to avoid giving Toby a haircut. A trim here and there to remove matted fur is all he has had so far. Unfortunately his ears keep getting really gross because he dips them in his water fountain, in his food, in the mud, etc. Instead of resigning myself to giving him multiple baths per week, I finally trimmed his ears. He looks pretty ridiculous now, it’s true, and I’m not sure if I’ll do it again when they grow out, but for now at least he requires a bit less maintenance. I imagine getting baths in the winter must be pretty unpleasant for a dog anyhow.
Really, I don’t appreciate that you did this to me.
So embarrassing!
Toby just has a really goofy expression in this picture!
Oh poor Toby, he must feel silly without his glorious ears. I can understand your frustration!
ReplyDeleteGuess what, there are lovely things like spaniel bowls, a bowl called a watering hole (I have one for sale on eBay) and snoods for keeping those lovely ears clean.
I have also found a fabulous detangler for those matts behind ears and in the feathering on the legs. A good conditioner or Plush Puppy Swishy Coat helps prevent tangles.
YOu really have a very pretty Cavalier. Enjoy.
Toby - you are adorable - even with a trim.
ReplyDeleteRemember - one ear at a time - when in the water or food bowl ;)
Hello Toby!!! You didn't look so happy on the first photo.....but you look adorable at the end. I Momo never need to be trimmed but me?? Pinot... A different story. Once I was shaved off...

Oh, goodness, my oh my, hmmm, well, the trim is unusual, but Toby doesn't know that!
ReplyDeletehey. there's a cap for cavaliers.
ReplyDeletei use that for my cavalier.
she wears it before eating & her ears are kept clean that way
its like a rectangle shape with 1 opening on each end. slot one end over dog's face & ears and the other end is behind the mouth, near the ear to keep ears clean.
if not sure, i'll try to get u a picture.
im located in asia though. u can sew it urself
Oof. A little uncomfortable, a little silly-looking, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do. Hope you've found a decent ongoing workaround to keep Toby beautiful AND clean!
